After growing to approximately full size in the woody, agrarian countryside near Greenville, Pennsylvania, I moved to Pittsburgh to study computer science. I learned an awful lot in the steel city, including how to make great coffee, the appropriate etiquette for attending an indie rock show, how to woo a beautiful woman, how NOT to run a technology start up, and the precise aroma of a new baby.

I now live in California, raise children, and work diligently on my PhD at the University of California, Davis under the guidance of Professor Kwan-Liu Ma in the Visualization and Interaction Design Innovation lab.  My work focuses primarily on information visualization, but I’m not opposed to casting some rays in the name of scientific visualization.  A perfect day sees me marrying the two, in the spirit of unity and mutual benefit.

If we were to fight, my weapon of choice would either be a hockey stick or a fresh baguette.

In my free time, I enjoy building things from parts, like the fine folks at Make Magazine, or going here.
